Biography
I'm a final-year student studying for an MEng degree in Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Bristol, and I live in Bristol for most of the year. My interests include web design and development, computer networks, DJing and house music, mountain biking and current affairs, and I'm an active supporter of Greenpeace, especially in their fight for clean energy.
I have a wide range of IT experience, both from personal interest, my studies and use in corporate environments. This summer I worked for Solsoft as a First-Line Support Technician, supporting Microsoft-based desktops and servers and a range of hardware across more than sixty networks. At home my computers run a mixture of Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Media Center Edition and Fedora Linux. I beta test Mozilla Firefox, a free, cross-platform, open-source web browser, and I'm an editor of the Open Directory Project.
I'm into all kinds of music (within reason), but I DJ house music both at home and at house parties and events when I can: I've played at Bristol University Students' Union, the Elbow Room, the Blue Monkey, Manhattan Bar and Henry J Beans. I've been DJing for a bit over two years now, and I'm always excited by new music and ideas, using both vinyl and CDs. My inspiration as a DJ comes from many sources, but a few include Pete Tong, Erick Morillo, David Guetta, the MYNC Project and the Stanton Warriors. This summer I travelled to Ibiza and saw some of the world's best DJs in action in some of the world's best clubs. I hope to start producing my own tunes in the near future.
Although significantly less involved since starting university, I'm involved with St. John Ambulance, helping to provide first aid cover and train cadets. I've been on the first aid team at Reading Football Club, the London Marathon, the 2002 Commonwealth Games and the V Festival, and have been on the annual St. John Ambulance Berkshire County Cadet Camp, both as an adult and, when I was younger, as a cadet.
